LMDD was founded by a dedicated group of healthcare and business professionals with a commitment to deliver cost effective, mobile FEES (Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing) in our area to enhance the patient’s quality of life.
FEES is an instrumental swallow study for assessment of swallow function/safety through use of a thin, flexible scope with a camera on the end. It is passed through one nostril to above the vocal folds to view the esophageal (food tube) opening, larynx (vocal folds), and into the trachea (windpipe).
Fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) is performed by a specially trained speech and language pathologist (SLP) to evaluate the pharyngeal stage of swallowing.
The use of FEES aids in patient care by leading to recommendations regarding the safety of the swallow, the advisability of oral feeding and the use of appropriate interventions to facilitate a more efficient swallow function.
FEES has been recognized as a gold-standard instrumental evaluation for dysphagia assessment and management.
